Photo of person holding up sign reading 'Game Over'' and ''Fascist Clown''Ever since the Inauguration of Donald Trump last month, I have kept silent about the terrible things that are happening to our country right now.  But I kept thinking about this poem I’d read several years ago and it kept haunting me.  Here it is:

First They Came
by Pastor Martin Niemoller

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist

Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me.

The man who wrote this poem was a Nazi, until they put him in a concentration camp for speaking out against the Nazi control of the churches.

I cannot remain silent any longer.  I’m hereby rededicating a portion of my blog to speaking out against Trump’s attempts to degrade American values, destroy American constitutionalism, and endanger the entire world with his erratic, unprincipled, and arrogant actions.  Look for these blog posts under ”Trump Watch” on my blog page.

  1. The Democrats enabled Trump by fielding hollow candidates controlled by neocons with a cold war mentality and corporate interests profiting from a fruitless proxy war just to “weaken Russia” (Biden’s oft stated aim and purpose). Bad as Trump may be domestically, flirting with WW3 is worse. I do not support Trump, but my wife (a Filipina) did vote for him – she was born before WW2 and lost relatives in it – remembers being bombed by both sides. Instead of cataloging Trump’s sins, Democrats must change course from being the war party that they seem to have become.

  2. Yes, you make a good point. However, I don’t see any sort of ”peace dividend” coming from Trump, who risks WW3 with his erratic and aggressive nature – wanting to take over a country or region is certainly not going in the right direction.
