Fifteen years ago, I wrote The Power of Neurodiversity:  Unleashing the Advantages of Your Differently Wired Brain.  At the time, few people knew the term neurodiversity, and the sales of the book were slow.  However, in the past several years, neurodiversity has emerged from obscurity to become a word that seems to be on everybody’s lips.  As book sales began to climb, my publisher (Hachette – the third largest publisher in the world), asked me to do a second edition, which I’m happy to say will be published on July 29th of this year.  To get people ready for the book, and to encourage ”buzz” as well as preorders, I’ve prepared this 12 1/2 minute video highlighting 15 key features of the book, which is now titled:  The Power of Neurodiversity:  Unleashing the Advantages of Your Neurodivergent Brain (Completed Revised and Updated Second Edition).  If you sign up for my blog (on my blog page and soon on my home page), you’ll receive a 200-item Neurodiversity Strengths Checklist that comes from the book (you can also get it by clicking on this link – but sign up for my blog anyway!)  As far as I know, it’s the most comprehensive strengths assessment available anywhere.  I also have a new chapter on ”positive niche construction” – a term I borrowed from evolutionary biology that describes how animals in the wild create their own environments to further their survival (and how we can apply this to creating ecologies that support neurodivergent individuals).  So too, I included a new chapter on neurodiversity in the workplace, since there’s been a lot of attention in the media focused on this topic.  Here are some kudos on the book by neurodiversity experts:

”True to the spirit of neurodiversity, this clearly written book highlights the strengths and challenges of autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other brain differences. It will contribute to raising awareness about neurodiversity across society.”

Professor Sir Simon Baron-CohenCambridge University, director Autism Research Centre

“Thomas Armstrong’s ‘The Power of Neurodiversity’ makes you rethink how we see neurological differences in our society. By highlighting how the strengths and unique talents can be applied in embracing environments of neurodiversity, Armstrong paints a great picture of a more inclusive and supportive world. This book is a must-read for people who are curious about the full range of human potential.”

Thorkil SonneSocial Entrepreneur and Pioneer in Neurodiversity Employment (his Danish company Specialisterne spearheaded the whole movement in hiring people on the spectrum for the IT field).

”Parents, teachers, and policymakers should all read this thought-provoking book. I loved it.’’

So here, then is the video.  Enjoy!
